Dry winter skin – almost all of us get it, especially on our face. Dry skin on your face is literally THE WORST because it’s so hard to apply makeup over without flaking. After getting back from NYC in mid-February, I knew I needed a pick me up before spring hits.
I wanted to get a facial but my thing is that I like instant results, and most facials that I knew of required repeated treatments for best results. The Skin Center suggested a dermaplane (had this done before and am OBSESSED) and a hydrafacial. My goal was to fix my dry skin, so this was perfect for me to try!
DERMAPLANE: I had my appointment with Nora and she was amazing! I highly recommend her. She was so attentive and made sure I understood what she was doing to my skin. First we started with a dermaplane to get my face prepped for the facial however this is not mandatory when getting a Hydrafacial, just recommended. If you’re new to the term, Dermaplane. Basically the esthetician takes a razor-like tool and scrapes (does not hurt at all) the first layer of dead skin and peach fuzz off of your face. This not only makes your face super smooth but it also allows products to soak into the skin better. BONUS: your makeup blends so much better too without those tiny little facial hairs. Also, no – your hair does NOT grow back thicker or darker. I would get this done monthly if I had the time. It just makes your skin feel amazing!
HYDAFACIAL: You guys, I’m mad that I’m just trying this now because I had such an amazing experience! Okay so let’s start with the details of what a Hydrafacial actually is…
HydraFacial is one of the most powerful, non-invasive skincare treatments that combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and antioxidant protection instantaneously, for clear, healthier-looking skin. HydraFacial delivers immediate results and long-term skin health and rejuvenation without discomfort, irritation or downtime. Yup, NO DOWN TIME! Plus it’s perfect for sensitive skin and only takes 30 minutes.
HydraFacial improves the appearance of:
HydraFacial is actually a machine that uses a suction tool to provide the skin resurfacing treatment. There are 4 steps in the treatment: cleanse, exfoliate, extract and hydrate. First, CLEANSE: They clean your face, pretty self explanatory. Next, EXFOLIATE: This step is similar to the dermaplane except it does not remove your peach fuzz, it ONLY removes the dead skin. Next, EXTRACT: This is when they use the suction tool to remove debris from pores. By the way, it’s painless. Lastly, HYDRATE: Your skin will be nourished with a variety of moisturizers.
MY EXPERIENCE: This is 110% getting put into my regular skincare routine. I loved that there was no downtime, I loved that it didn’t hurt and I loved that is was so quick. Also the best part, you see immediate results!
My skin was super hydrated, I couldn’t stop looking at it – not kidding lol. Below is a photo of all the icky stuff that was suctioned off of my face, EW! There really was no negative about my experience. However, I will say with the dermaplane, I got some little bumps under my nose about a week after, which is similar to a razor burn and totally normal. I moisturized and they went away in 2 days – no biggie.
If you’re looking for a facial that is gentile on your skin, comes with immediate results and won’t break the bank, this ones for you sista.
I went to The Skin Center for my treatment. They have offices located all over Pittsburgh and some in Ohio. A Dermaplane typically runs at about $50 and a Hydrafacial starts at $199. The total for what I got was $249 but if you follow @theskincentermd on Instagram and tell them I sent you when booking, you get $50 off! YAY! If you want to book, slide in their DMs.
I hope this was helpful and as always, if you try it. Tag me!
