What’s up guys! I hope everyone is staying sane and healthy. Today I want to share all the details on my new (tiny) portable washer & spin dryer – that I’m actually obsessed with. All you will need is a water source, an outlet and a tub/shower for it to work for you!

The reason I did purchase this is because I live in a 10 unit apartment building and we all share 1 washer & dryer. I’m not so much worried about my clothing as I am about having to wipe down all surfaces in order to get down to the basement/use the machine due to Covid-19.

So if you find yourself or one of your family members in this situation, I definitely recommend investing in one of these portable machines. Most of the ones I’ve found are under $200 and as small as a bar cart!

I’ll link a few options below for you to checkout but the one I purchased (linked first) had terrible instructions so I figured I’d also explain how it works to help ya out!

So the machine is actually pretty simple! All you do it plug it into an outlet and place it in your tub/shower. The back of the machine has a draining tube already attached to the machine which is why it needs to be in the bath/shower, so that it can drain. I tried using a bucket at first to drain the water but due to gravity the drain needs to be lower than the machine. Does that make sense?

Since you have to manually fill the washer side with water, the machine also comes with a tube/clamp that you can maneuver onto your shower head in order to fill the machine. The ideal situation would be to have a removable shower head so that you can easy place the hose in the washer to fill with it however I don’t so I unscrewed our shower head (actually was super easy) and used the included tube.

So you just plug the machine in, fill it about half way with clothes and 3/4 with water then add your liquid detergent. The buttons on my machine are very self explanatory. You can choose to put the wash on “normal” or a “gentle” cycle. The longest a wash cycle is, is 15 minutes and once it’s done all you do it turn the “drain” button and it starts to drain!

The first time I ran I think I used too much soap so I ended up running another cycle with the same clothes just to get the soap out. You can also keep the “drain” on while filling with water to just rinse any access soap away.

The washer fits about 12lbs of clothes and the dryer about 8lbs, so I find myself splitting up the clean load when it comes to drying. The dryer isn’t heated, it’s just a spin dryer so it’s not going to dry your clothes 100% – more like 85% depending on how long you let it spin.

The only down side is that there is a 5 minute time limit to the spin drying cycle so I find myself having to restart it a few times. Overall I’d say I dry each bunch of clothes for 15-20 minutes, so 3-4 rounds and then I hang the clothes over the shower to finish line drying.

So you can see the machine does require some attention compared to a normal washer/dryer but it keeps me busy when I’m bored in the house lol!

Let’s talk a little more about the dryer. The top of the dryer has an attached plastic strainer like thing that you can use to ring your clothes out before placing them into the dryer. The machine also comes with another plastic piece that you put on top of the clothes in the dryer so that they stay balanced.
