How I asked my Bridesmaids

Filed in Life — March 5, 2022

After Jamie proposed, one of the first things I thought of when it comes to the wedding is my bridesmaids. I was so excited to figure out who I was asking and actually ask them! It honestly makes planning so much more fun after you ask your bridesmaids because then you have a group of your closest friends to chat with about planning and share the excitement with. Also, I knew that the majority of my bridesmaids live in different states, so that’s another reason why I planned ahead. So I could ask them all in person, which I highly recommend! Happy to say that I have officially asked them and they all said yes!

Choosing your bridesmaids can honestly be so hard, especially if you have a lot of close friends from different times in your life. If I asked everyone that came to mind, I would probably have 12-15 bridesmaids and that’s honestly insane lol. So I kept it to 8 of my closest friends and family.

I asked my sisters, Jamie’s sister and 5 of my best friends from college to be my bridesmaids. I asked my friends differently so let’s start there. These girls are literally like family to me. You go through so much shit in college + change so much as a person and they were there with me through it all.

My Friends

Jenna – My first friend in college, we call her Benna! We met on an SRU 2012 Facebook group. I was originally going to room with a lifelong friend from preschool but she ultimately decided to go to a different school. So I went on FB and found a random chick (Benna) that looked “normal.” It’s funny to think about now, but It must have been fate because we became close friends right away. We joined AOII sorority together and lived together all four years. She actually just had a baby and I get to go meet him this month, ah!!!

Sarah – Benna and I got paired up to room in a quad with Sarah and her roommate. We didn’t click with our 4th roommate but became super close with Sarah right away. Ugh I love them and wish all the time I could go back to those times, just for a day. It was so much fun living with your best friends.

Julia – I met Jul in a special education class. Believe it or not, I started as an Early Childhood major but she actually finished as one lol. We joke because Jul kept to herself but I guess I was super outgoing at the time and just randomly started talking to her and made her my friend. She had no choice lol. I introduced Jul to Jenna, Sarah & Chelsea. Our 4th roommate transferred schools, so Julia moved in and the rest is history.

Chelsea – Chels you guys probably know! She still lives in Pittsburgh and works straight magic on my face. She’s a super talented cosmetic nurse and does my Botox/filler. Anyway — I met Chels through Sarah. They went to high school together and once Chels transferred to SRU, it was an easy friendship. We’ve grown super close over after college. Her fiance and Jamie are also good friends!

Jenna – Jenna k!!! I’m pretty sure Jenna was in one of my roommates classes and that’s how we met. Then at some point Jenna & Chels because roommates so it was perfect. I just got to see Jenna too! The relationship Q&A Jamie and I did on Youtube (here) is also a vlog of our trip to go see her. We all quickly became best friends Freshman year and even though we all live in different states now, when we’re together it’s like nothing changed.

I wanted to ask my girlfriends in a cute way but I knew I wanted to do something a little different than your typically box. I also needed to be able to fit whatever it is in my suitcase because none of them live in Nash.

Since we’re getting married near the beach, I wanted the gifts to also reflect that so I went with cute jelly beach baskets. I also found really cute denim jacket’s from Show me Your Mumu that say ‘ride or die’ on the back and they fit perfectly in the basket. I ordered simple name tags off of Etsy with ribbon that I could use to tie a bow and added in dried palms for aesthetic purposes and there ya go! I’ll link the items I used below in case you’re into anything. I’m also going to link some Etsy shops that will make a similar bag for ya!

My sisters

I knew I definitely wanted my older sisters (Katie, 33 and Kelly, 38) and Jamie’s younger sister (Nicole) in my wedding party! I actually do not have a maid of honor because it was too hard to pick. I also knew that I wanted to ask them in a special way, different from how I asked my friends.

Jamie and I designed our engagement ring at Henne Jewelers in Pittsburgh. They’re honestly amazing at what they do and actually care a lot about their customers. The business is family owned and has been in business since 1887, which is wild!!!! I love ordering things through them because they know what they’re doing!

I was able to work with Henne Jewelers to design the PERFECT customized necklaces for my sisters. Ahhh! They turned out so beautifully and everyone loved them!!! I really liked that I did a different gift for my sisters, something they could keep forever makes it that much more special.

If you’re located in Pittsburgh or not, checkout Henne Jewelers for all your jewelry needs here!

When I’m writing this, it is almost 1 year until the wedding and I can’t wait to share my day with these girls!

And that’s it!
