If I’m being honest, I have a really hard time putting down my phone. Being on social media for a living and absolutely loving what I do makes me never want to stop doing it – ya can’t blame a girl! But this life is about balance and it’s so important for all of us to take time to disconnect.
Last summer Jamie and I went camping for the first time ever. I’ve slept in a tent before at a music festival but have never experienced the whole camping thing, you know like in the woods. I’d say I’m pretty down to earth but I can be a little high maintenance when it comes to my necessities so I didn’t know how I’d feel about it.. Turns out we had the best time ever! I think I really enjoyed camping because it forced me to put my phone down and be present. The woods is the one place I feel like I can just escape and not feel pressured to document what I’m doing for social media.
For Christmas Jamie’s family got us camp chairs, a coffee maker and a camping grill lol, so needless to say I guess camping is now our thing. Something I honestly never thought I’d say like who am I?
It being winter here in Pittsburgh, we obviously haven’t been able to camp which sucks but the other night Jamie and I stayed at the Getaway House Beaver Creek location and had seriously the best time! We played Go fish, made pasta and just chilled by the fire. We got the camping experience but without sleeping in a tent – which honestly is what I prefer.. Here’s the deets!
Getaway House is a small house/tiny cabin located in the woods that is available to rent! They have locations near Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Los Angelas, New York, Portland, Washington D.C. and Pittsburgh/Cleveland. We stayed at the Pittsburgh/Cleveland location in Beaver Creek about an hour and 15 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. Finding the actual location was super easy however I do recommend checking in before dark.
I was very pleased with how the check in process worked. As someone who rents Airbnbs often, I feel like each host prepares you differently and I often find myself searching through my email or the app for instructions. The Getaway team texted me a few days before our trip to confirm and then the day of to tell us the address, name of out specific cain and the code to get into it. It was super easy and that aspect definitely stood out to me!
The purpose of Getaway is to unplug from work, wifi and routines to enjoy undistracted time in nature. They have 2 and 4 person cabins available!
The price varies on location, the day and time of year. A stay at the Beaver Creek location ranges from $100-$169 per night. If you use the code ‘KELC25’ at checkout you can get $25 off too!
Going to keep this one pretty simple because they cover all of this on the website. Essentially they supply everything except food. Below is a list of what each cabin includes but you can learn more, here!
I personally felt very safe but I understand some worry more than others. As far as cell service goes, I have T-mobile and had no service but Jamie who has Verizon did have service so it depends on your carrier however, they do have a red phone for emergencies located in each cabin. Each cabin faces the same direction so it’s pretty private and the doors lock. You also have the option to pull the blinds down when sleeping.
You can book your stay on their website, here. Use code KELC25 at checkout for $25 off your getaway!
YES YES YES! We honestly had the best time. We love nature, camping & traveling so this was perfectly right up our alley. Next time I want to stay 2-3 nights and maybe rent a 4 person cabin for some friends to join!
We will definitely be back, Getaway!
