Fall fashion is my favorite! I love experimenting with layering and mixing classic styles with trendy ones, for a perfectly balanced outfit. Some of my favorite fall trends right now are white booties, overalls, animal prints (so glad these came back – lol) and Blazer + Trouser sets. Aside from the year’s trends, I find that every fall I have a few go-to fall staple pieces that i’m always incorporating into my looks. Here are a few of my favorite fall go-to closet essentials with links to some super cute options to shop, enjoy!
One of my favorite trends definitely goes to the white booties. They’re so fun and surprisingly easy to style! I have received DM’s asking how to style them so that blog post may be coming, but my advice would be to just not think about it so much! White is a neutral color so it really could go with anything. My favorite ways to style white booties is with jeans and a sweater or a dress that ties in the white, layered with a denim jacket.
If I could recommend adding one item from this post to your closet it would be a denim jacket. I really don’t know why everyone doesn’t own one, because they’re so easy! Have a summer dress that you want to wear in fall? Denim Jacket. Need to make a short sleeve dress appropriate for the office? Denim jacket. Some denim jackets are uncomfortable which is why I think a lot of people don’t incorporate them into their closet as much. But once you find a soft, light weight denim jacket your life will be changed I promise.
Neutral colored sweaters especially soft and oversized ones, are always a go-to for me. You can style them with any wash of jeans, skirts or even over a dress if the sweater is loose enough! Tbh one of my favorite ways to style sweaters are with black leggings and booties. It’s such an easy way to dress up a look while still being comfortable.
A huge color this fall is mustard and I’m here for it. It’s the perfect fall color and really compliments the other fall colors that you choose to pair with it. Like it did in my outfit shots, I love adding in a little mustard to my accessories. I feel like my bag just pops!
As a stylist, a lot of my clients say that they can’t pull off long dusters or that their too short or that they simply just don’t know how to style them. My advice would be to just go for it! I love duster cardigans because their cozy, chic and a perfect way to layer for fall. If you’re having trouble styling a duster, try it with a simple tank, jeans and booties. I also love pairing them with body-con dresses for a night out!
So I used to be so shy when it came to hats. I thought if I actually styled them for anything other than a photo, everyone would look at me and think “why’s that girl wearing a hat?” So dumb, right? lol. I quickly realized that no one cares and started wearing the in public. Other than hats being such a cute fall accessory, they’re also great for hair washing days when your hair just doesn’t do what you want it to. (pro-tip)
YES, YES, YES to mules! Think about it, they are the perfect summer to fall transition shoe – basically a closed toed sandal. Depending on the style you purchase, they also make a great alternative to heels because they’re a classier style. Plus I love that you can just slide them on and go.
Boyfriend denim or the new fit and flare cropped denim are so cute for fall! I’m such a fan of a good distressed cropped boyfriend jean with a raw hem because it pairs so well with booties or even mules.
I’ve had an olive utility jacket in my closet for over 8 years now. Over those years I’ve upgraded of course but I’ve found this is such a needed item for everyones closet! It’s casual, comfortable and can be worn layered for the weather or just worn under a tank for inside. I’ve even styled them around my waist. I love wearing my olive utility jacket with jeans, combat boots and a sweater.
I purchased the most amazing plaid blazer form Forever21 at the end of last season and I am so pumped to finally be able to break it out! I also just received a pink linen one from Shop Lola and it is also to die for! One way that I love styling blazers are with boyfriend denim, a tight simple tank and strappy heels/booties. It’s also fun to pair them with a-line midi skirts and a graphic tee!
