I’m sure you’re thinking the same thing I was thinking a few months ago. What in the world is this Microneedling thing we keep hearing about? It’s all over social media. Why are people poking their skin with needles!? It sounds like a funny/weird concept but in reality, it’s AMAZING for your skin!
Now before I share my knowledge with you guys on the topic, I want to make it clear that I am not a esthetician nor do I have any professional background in skin care. The knowledge I share in this post is referenced from Beauty Bio and my girl, Margia from YouTube who is a skin expert. (lol) It is also from my personal experience – take of it what you will.
Okay so you guys know that I am super passionate about my skincare and how we treat out skin. If you follow along on Instagram, you’ll occasionally see my visits to my friends over at The Skin Center – I love a good facial from Kaytie! I’m also almost always trying new things on my skin. So naturally whenever I heard about microneedling, I needed to know more stat.
Microneedling is the use of needles or ‘microneedles’ to achieve a therapeutic effect on the skin. It helps improve the look of scars, boost collagen, tighten/smooths skin and helps create that “glow” effect that us ladies obsess over.
It’s actually super interesting. The little needles create channels in the skin and help stimulate the skin’s natural processes to work faster and behave like it did when we were younger. Makes sense right? This is also why I love it, because it’s natural for your skin!
At a clinic or Med Spa, they use a machine instead of a roller. The machine provides deeper needles then what we have on our at home rollers. With the machine, they are able to set it to different needle depths depending on your skin type and what you are trying to achieve from the session.
Also a little piece of advice that I’ve learned while researching. Since professional tools go deeper into your skin, you need to make sure that wherever you go they are NOT using any other serum that is foreign to the skin! No acids. No lotions. However, since it does hurt on dry skin, they need to be using something. Steroid water is okay and so is pure hyaluronic acid because it is natural to the skin. Make sure that you are asking questions if you go to a clinic to have this done.
So to sum it up, if you go with the professional route the service is a lot more intense because the needles are put deeper into the skin. This however does conclude in faster results but may include down time due to redness.
So, a usual microneedle roller that you would purchase and use at home has a common needle depth around .25.
You CAN use this roller to introduce other products because you are only penetrating the surface of your skin. The needles are not going deep enough to be scene as foreign to the skin. Makes sense right? This allows you to experiment with more products and serums!
From my personal experience, do NOT use a microneedler on your dry skin. It hurts and will cause your skin to flake. (yes I experienced this lol) Make sure you are cleansing and drying your face before you start. They add your favorite serum. Use the roller and then add the serum back on to finish off the treatment. I have been told from professionals that you should stay away from any type of retinol oil and look for one that includes hyaluronic acid.
There really is not an answer to this I’ve found. It is recommended that you pay attention to how your skin reacts and go form there. I usually add it into my night time skin scare routine 2-4 times a week and I do it for only 3-5 minutes.
Okay so now let’s get into at home microneedle tools. There are a ton of cheap and simple options offered on Amazon and other retailers. These tools usually are only the roller, nothing else. Like I’ve mentioned before I believe in investing in your skin (because well duh, you’ll have it on you forever!) So I decided to look into better options and tools. I found the GloPro and am obsessed to say the least.
So basically it’s a microneedler that offers LED light therapy as well as VibroTactile Stimulation. (read why this is good for you below) I also love this one because the microneedle tips are adjustable. You can get a smaller one for your lips or a bigger one for your body (Because did you know that microneedling is also proven to reduce cellulite? AMAZING)
The GloPRO has been editor approved by Forbes, Allure, The Today Show, Vogue, NBC, CBS, Women’s Health and so much fun. I stand behind this product 100% and definitely recommend the splurge. Here is why the GloPRO is different than other tools..
Microneedling
“The Micro Tip Needles are designed to gently part skin cells and create microchannels in the upper layers of skin. With the movement of epidermal cells, amicrojury response is triggered within the skin forcing new collagen production in the fibroblasts and immediate cell turnover. The results with regular use, is younger, “newer” looking skin, with a natural healthy glow. “
LED Therapy
“Light-emitting diode (LED) therapy is also known as Red Light, is designed for . anti-aging, and serves as an anti-inflammatory treatment to help repair redness and uneven skin tone. Cells exposed to LED light grow on overwhelming 150 to 200 percent faster than unstimulated cells.”
VibroTactile Stimulation
“The Gentle vibratory pulse function in the tool acts as a domino effect, cascading energy into the deepest layers of skin, granting access without having to penetrate into the dermis. Imagine tossing a stone into a pool of water. The ripple effect touches water at the farthest edge of the pool. This vibration stimulation causes the same effect in the skin for additional synergistic benefits.”
You can purchase the GloPRO here! (yours will not have the lips design as this was limited edition)
